FDA Panel Calls for Lower Maximum Doses of Popular Painkillers
A Food and Drug Administration panel of experts has recommended sweeping safety restrictions on painkillers containing acetaminophen, by calling for a reduction of the maximum daily dosage of Tylenol and completely eliminating drugs such as Percocet and Vicodin. Each year, overdoses of acetaminophen send 56,000 people to emergency rooms; 200 die from inadvertent overdoses.
