Tests Show High Rate of Lead in Toys
A large percentage of toys purchased at major retailers, like Wal-Mart and Toys “R” Us, contained lead, tests by consumer and environmental groups have revealed. According to the findings, 35% of toys tested positive for some traces of lead while only 20 percent of toys were found to be free of lead and other harmful products. Toy industry officials have criticized these findings citing failure to follow recognized test procedures.
