Baby Bathers and Mr. Coffee Brewers Recalled
Each month the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalls dozens of products that pose the risk of injury or death to consumers. Over the past few weeks, the CPSC has recalled several products that are in use in millions of homes across the U.S.:
Mother’s Touch/Deluxe Baby Bathers, with 2 million sold between September 2004 and November 2011, pose a hazard to infants when lifted and/or carried in the bathers. The bather’s folding wire frame can suddenly disengage from the side hinge, causing the baby to drop out the bather. There have been several reports of infants, aged two weeks to two months, suffering serious head injuries and skull fractures from falls from the bathers. The bathers were sold on the internet and at mass merchandiser stores throughout the U.S. If you have purchased one of the Mother’s Touch Bathers manufactured by Summer Infant, Inc. stop using the product immediately. Check the CPSC website for a description with color photos and model numbers recalled. A repair kit is available from the manufacturer by calling 800-426-8627, or visit www.summerinfant.com/batherrepairkit.
In another recall, Mr. Coffee Single Cup Brewers have been pulled from store shelves. 560,000 brewers were sold by Bed, Bath and Beyond, JC Penny, KMart, Lowes, Target and Walmart between September 2010 and August 2012. Manufactured by Sunbeam Products, dba “JCS” of Boca Raton, Florida, the brewers have been involved in dozens of burn injuries to consumers’ faces, upper torsos and hands. The brewing chamber can open and expel hot water and coffee grounds when a build up of steam forces the brewing chamber to open, posing a risk of burn injuries to consumers. The brewers are black with either silver, white or red trim, stand about 11″ tallĀ and have on/off brew buttons. If you own one of these brewers, discontinue use immediately and contact JCS for instructions on how to receive a replacement at 800-993-8609, or visit www.mrcoffeerecall.com. Recalled model numbers are listed on both the CPSC and JCS websites.
