Medical Bills a Factor in Most Bankruptcies

A new study published by the American Journal of Medicine found that nearly two-thirds of bankruptcies filed in 2007 stemmed from medical bills incurred by those covered by health insurance and those without insurance. Hospital  and prescription drug costs accounted for the majority of expenses. Patients with neurological illness, diabetes and injuries experienced the highest out-of-pocket expenses.
