Snowmobiler injured after striking object on frozen Shiawassee River
JAMES TOWNSHIP, MI — A 24-year-old Chesaning man injured in a snowmobile crash during a snowstorm was rescued by firefighters who followed a trail leading through the forest to the frozen Shiawassee River.
The man was riding a 2009 Ski-Doo about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, on the river west of Weigl Road when the crash happened, Saginaw County Sheriff’s Lt. Randy Pfau said.
James Township firefighters were called for a report of a snowmobile crash with a neck injury, Fire Chief Carl Portner said.
More snow falls on Michigan; At least 5 killed in crashes
DETROIT — Another round of snow has hit Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, with crashes claiming at least five lives.
Three-point-four inches of snow fell in Saginaw County through Wednesday morning.
The Missaukee County sheriff’s department says a woman and her father died Tuesday when a pickup truck hit their car. They’re identified as 47-year-old Wendy King and 71-year-old Michael Inscho of Merritt.
Saginaw police investigate crash on city’s West Side
SAGINAW, MI — Saginaw police responded to a crash involving two vehicles at about 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, at State and Mason on the city’s West Side.
Saginaw County Central Dispatch said police and medical were dispatched for an injury accident.

How drones will help clear mega accidents much quicker
Following the 193-vehicle pileup in western Michigan a few weeks back, state police are hoping the Federal Aviation Administration will issue state-wide approval of a $158,000 drone that can help rapidly reconstruct accident scenes.
The Aeryon SkyRanger snaps hundreds of overlapping photos that can be edited together to create a three-dimensional map of an accident scene, MSP 1st Lt. Chris Bush told The Detroit News. The Ontario Provincial Police have been using a pair of Aeryon drones around Toronto for the past few years, and the department claims they reduce the amount of time it takes to photograph an accident scene by up to 87 percent.
UPDATE: Icy Roads Cause Dozens Of Accidents; School Closings
Update 10:25 a.m. – The clean-up continues after freezing rain caused dozens of accidents in mid-Michigan this morning. In Eaton County southbound I-69 between Davis and Billwood was closed shortly after 8:30 a.m. for about one hour to clean up an accident. The road has since re-opened.
In Jackson County at one point this morning police were dealing with 29 separate accidents.
The icy roads are being blamed for two separate crashes involving semi-trucks along I-94 in Van Buren County in southwestern Michigan.
Crash, involving school bus, shut downs eastbound I-94; traffic backed up for miles
JACKSON, MI — The Michigan Department of Transportation reported that a crash has shut down eastbound I-94 after US-127 at Lansing Avenue as of 2:16 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4.
Four vehicles are involved in the wreck, including a school bus. Eastbound traffic is at a standstill for miles, and westbound traffic is creeping at a slow rate.
State Police Lt. Kyle Bowman said there are no serious injuries.
Safety study ordered into 193-vehicle crash on I-94
KALAMAZOO – As investigators complete their reports on a huge January traffic crash, a study of I-94 is underway.
Michigan State Police have sent their reports to the Kalamazoo County prosecutor on their investigation into the 193-vehicle crash on Jan. 9.
An accident in the eastbound lanes followed by another in the westbound lanes killed one truck driver and injured more than 20 other people.

Ohio man dies in Michigan snowmobile crash
LENAWEE COUNTY, MI — A 34-year-old man was killed in a snowmobiling accident Saturday night, according to the Associated Press.
The Columbus, Ohio man died after his snowmobile struck a parked car near Devils Lake in Lenawee County, according to the report.
Another man in northern Michigan was injured in a separate snowmobiling incident earlier Saturday.
