Police: OSHA will not review Menards fatal accident

State regulators will not investigate the strange incident at a Menards store in Chesterfield Township where a customer died after being struck in the head by falling tiles, according to police.

The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MiOSHA) was notified of Saturday’s fatality but likely will not conduct its own independent investigation, said police Sgt. Ken Anderson. http://www.macombdaily.com/general-news/20140901/police-osha-will-not-review-menards-fatal-accident

Boat Talk: The most common causes of accidents and deaths on the water

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — When it comes to efforts to inform boaters of the risks of operating under the influence, Michigan residents appear to be getting the message.

That’s at least one conclusion when looking at 2013 recreational boating statistics from the U.S. Coast Guard, which show alcohol was a contributing factor in six accidents and one fatality last year. The current statistics are down from 12 alcohol-related accidents and nine fatalities in 2009. http://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/index.ssf/2014/08/boat_talk_7.html

No-Fault Auto Insurance Rates Case To Be Appealed To Michigan Supreme Court

As The Michigan Public Radio Network’s Jake Neher reports, the case involves a private fund that reimburses people who are seriously injured in auto accidents.

The Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association tacks a fee onto auto insurance policies to pay for the reimbursements. But it has refused to make documents public that could show how it sets its rates. A group called the Coalition Protecting Auto No-Fault is suing the MCCA to force it to release the information. It now plans to appeal the case to the Michigan Supreme Court. http://wkar.org/post/no-fault-auto-insurance-rates-case-be-appealed-michigan-supreme-court
