Texas Peanut Plant was Uninspected for Years
A Texas peanut processing plant operated without a license for four years until the recent salmonella outbreak, according to reports. The plant, run by the same company blamed for contamination at a Georgia-based plant – the Peanut Corporation of America – was not subject to health inspections during this period. However, salmonella was not discovered at the Texas plant. Peanut Corp. officials declined to comment on the Texas plant. Brett J. Blackledge, Austin American Statesman 02/04/2009 |
